Pyzel Surfboards was founded around 2000 by Jon Pyzel on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii – one of the most challenging surfing regions in the world. Pyzel started as a young shaper developing boards for the local heavy-water conditions and became one of the most renowned shapers of his generation through his close collaboration with John John Florence. Florence, a three-time WSL world champion, has surfed exclusively on Pyzel boards for years and has contributed significantly to the development of many models. This partnership is one of the closest and most productive in modern surfboard history.

Pyzel is known for boards that perform well in demanding, powerful waves – but are also satisfying to surf in smaller, weaker conditions. Shapes like the Ghost, the Phantom, the Astro Pop, and the Grom are staples in the performance surf segment. The Ghost was developed specifically for John John's competitive use and has become one of the best-selling high-performance shortboards worldwide. Pyzel produces handmade boards in limited quantities with a small team in Haleiwa, Hawaii. Quality control is correspondingly high.
