Which wetsuit is suitable for which water temperature?

The type of wetsuit you need for surfing depends on a variety of factors, such as water temperature, air temperature, and the amount of time you spend in the water.

  • If the water temperature is below 15°C, a 4/3mm or 5/4/3mm full length wetsuit is generally recommended.
  • For water temperatures between 14 and 20°C (70-75°F), a 3/2mm wetsuit is ideal.
  • For water temperatures between 20 and 24 °C a 2mm shorty will be sufficient.
  • For warmer water temperatures above 24 °C, we usually recommend a Thermolycra or neoprene top.

Of course, in addition to the water temperature, countless factors influence the choice of the right wetsuit: feeling cold, activity in the water, outside temperature, sunshine, etc. In the end, the scale serves as a guide, so you can easily switch from the 4/3 to the 3/ 2 degrees sooner or later.
