Buying advice surfboard leash

A surfboard leash is essential safety equipment for every surfer. It connects the surfboard to the surfer and prevents the board from drifting away in the event of a fall. A good surfboard leash can save lives. And that doesn't just mean your own life; Your leash also protects other surfers in the lineup because your board doesn't bounce around uncontrollably.

What is a surfboard leash?

A surfboard leash consists of a neoprene/Velcro cuff that is strapped around the surfer's ankle. Attached to this is a rubber line with a length of 5-12ft, which ends in a railsaver on the board side.

Why is a surfboard leash so important?

A surfboard leash is important because it prevents the surfboard from drifting away in the event of a fall. If you are surfing without a leash and fall into the water, your surfboard may drift and you may lose it. This can be very dangerous if you are in a strong current or near other surfers.

How long should my leash be?

We use the board length as a guideline. The leash should be at least as long as your board. The body size of the surfer and the desired wave height also play a role. We recommend a leash length of at least your body size. The reason for this is that sometimes you want to push yourself off the ground - if the leash is too short, you will push yourself directly into the board from below. For larger waves, we also recommend moving one foot upwards. Longer leashes are stronger and absorb more pulling force.

Caring for the surfboard leash

To extend the life of your surfboard leash, you should clean and care for it regularly. Wash the leash with warm water and soap after each surf. It may not always be possible, but at least just rinse off the salt water. Make sure the leash is completely dry before storing it again.

Replace the leash if it is worn or damaged.
