Quiksilver

Quiksilver was founded in 1969 in Torquay, Australia, by Alan Green and John Law – at the same time and in the same place as Rip Curl, which is no coincidence: the surf scene in the small coastal town was the most creative hotspot in Australia at the time. Green had previously worked briefly at Rip Curl and brought sewing skills with him. Together, they developed the first boardshort made of cotton terry, with a Velcro fastener instead of a drawstring – a small innovation that made surfing more comfortable. The iconic wave-and-snow-capped-mountain logo captures the soul of the brand in a single image: land and water sports as one.

Quiksilver grew into a global company in the 1980s and 90s, expanding its range far beyond boardshorts. Today, the collection includes T-shirts, hoodies, shirts, jackets, trousers, wetsuits, rashguards, and a wide line of accessories. Boardshort models like the Everyday, the New Wave, and the Highline are among the best-selling surf shorts worldwide. Quiksilver was also a pioneer in the snowboard segment, sponsoring athletes like Terje Haakonsen early on. In surfing, the brand leveraged its close connection to the WSL and supported world champions like Kelly Slater in his early years.

Quiksilver stands for a down-to-earth surf philosophy: good product, real athletes, no exaggerations. Despite a turbulent corporate history – including bankruptcy in 2015 and acquisition by Boardriders in 2016 – the brand has retained its core identity: surf boardshorts from Australia, for everyone at home in the water. Today, Quiksilver belongs to the same corporate group as Billabong and Roxy, which creates synergies in production and distribution.
