FCS

FCS – Fin Control System – was founded in 1992 by Brian Whitty in Sydney, Australia, and fundamentally changed the surfboard industry. Up until then, fins were laminated permanently into surfboards – changing them was complicated or impossible. Whitty developed a plug-in fin system that allowed for the quick replacement of fins. This might sound like a minor technical improvement, but in practice, it was a revolution: for the first time, surfers could fine-tune their board's handling through fin selection – for different waves, different conditions, and different riding styles.

The FCS system became the industry standard and is now installed on the majority of surfboards produced worldwide. In 2013, FCS launched the FCS II system – no screws, faster changes, and more flex transfer from the fin to the board. The fins themselves are made from various materials: fiberglass, carbon, PC carbon, bamboo – each with different flex characteristics and performance properties. FCS works with the world's best surfers, including John John Florence, Stephanie Gilmore, and Gabriel Medina, to develop signature fins that meet genuine performance requirements. In addition to fins, FCS also offers leashes, traction pads, and surfboard accessories.
