Semente Poolboard History and Guide

Surfing on the Citywave – The right board makes the difference

Whether in a pool or on the ocean: different conditions require perfectly matched surfboards. While ocean surfboards are primarily designed for buoyancy, currents, and powerful waves, pool boards stand out for their compact shape, maneuverability, and precision – ideal for tight turns on stationary waves.

The width of the pool is limited, which is why the boards must also be shorter to make them easier to turn.

Semente Poolboards – Pioneers in development

In 2016, renowned shaper Nick Urrichio and Muli exchanged ideas about pool board shapes and worked on a prototype. This resulted in the Semente "Poolhero." It still featured FCS I plugs because they were easier to repair.

From this, the first "Pool Series" was developed, featuring the three shapes: Lancer, Striker, and Gnasher. The logos/symbols correspond to the glyphs representing "expression," "power," and "energy." The names are derived from weapon names in various shooter games... ;-)

This was followed by gradual improvements such as FCSII plugs, carbon rails, and carbon plug patches with epoxy glassing, the idea of "gun glassing" for pool boards, adhesive aluminum plug shields, and finally, HD plugs. HD stands for "High Density," and they feature a higher density and a larger surface area. They have become the industry standard today and were quickly copied by every other surfboard manufacturer... ;-)

The models at a glance

Striker:
The all-rounder for all skill levels – proven, versatile, and easy to ride.
Hot Sauce: Developed in collaboration with team rider Chilli from Urban Surf. With a narrower outline for more drive and dynamics.

Notorious:
Developed for the wave in Ebikon, this shape comes from Misra Noto. Fast, snappy, and ideal for small waves.

Blacktip:
Recognizable by its black carbon nose. The pointed nose, good width, and characteristic wings in the tail make the board super maneuverable and controllable.

Rubber Duck:
Originally developed by Tobias Hefti for Flo Oliver, this single-fin model is now produced under license by Semente. The focus here is on fun – ideal for cruising and relaxing.

Machete:
The latest model from Chilli. Narrower than other boards, suitable for larger heights, and equipped with a swallowtail – perfect for speed and powerful carves.
