Boardshaping Talk by LT Shapes 2026
How is a surfboard actually made? Which decisions influence how it performs on a wave, and which materials are used in the process? These are exactly the questions addressed by the Boardshaping Talk by LT Shapes 2026 in Zurich. The workshop offers surfing enthusiasts the opportunity to learn about the entire creation process of a surfboard – from the first blank to the finished board.

The talk is led by Tobias Hefti, founder and shaper of LT Shapes. His passion for the craft and for surfing led him to develop, shape, and glass his own boards. Today, he continually experiments with new shapes, materials, and designs to further advance the possibilities of modern surfboard building.
During the workshop, participants gain a practical insight into the fundamentals of surfboard design. Topics such as rails, rocker, contours, and blank shaping are explained in an accessible way. Furthermore, Tobias demonstrates the most important shaping techniques and explains the glassing process using fiberglass and resin. Materials science is also covered: different construction methods and their pros and cons are discussed in detail.
By the end of the talk, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of how a surfboard is created and which factors influence its performance in the water. The workshop is aimed at curious surfers as well as anyone with a passion for craftsmanship, design, and the technology behind the sport.
The Boardshaping Talk takes place on selected Saturdays in 2026 in Zurich and offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from an experienced shaper and take a look behind the scenes of surfboard building.
