Soon after, local SB shaper Matt Moore began shaping Jon's boards and added him to his team of local surfers. Matt always helped explain the ideas and principles of surfboard design and let Jon watch him shape all of his boards.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eAfter traveling more to surf, Jon realized he wanted better waves and warmer water and moved permanently to the North Shore of Oahu in 1992. There he found work repairing dents at Country Surfboards and quickly learned the trade and was soon working as a hot coater and laminator. Then he met master shaper Jeff Bushman, who gave him advice and encouragement to keep growing. Eventually, Jeff gave Jon a job as a back shaper, and that was the beginning of his shaping career.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e A pivotal moment came a few years later, in 1997. Alex Florence approached Jon with a request to build a board for her eldest son, John John, who was 5 years old at the time. From then on, Jon and John John worked together to redefine what was possible for grom surfing. The rear end has plenty of rocker curve for turning control and a snappy responsiveness. It's our flattest HPSB yet and this rocker makes for easy, consistent speed from the moment you stand up, through flat sections and even in super weak, small waves. But flat rocker can feel sticky and tends to surf you flat, so we ran a single to double concave (JJF's preferred bottom contour) through the front 2\/3 of the board and then blended that into a significant double concave\/deep vee combo through the fins and tail. This bottom makes the flat board easy to roll from rail to rail and the vee on the tail allows for easy vertical surfing and short carves, even in tight, pockmarked waves.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp\u003eThe thickness gradient (foil) from nose to tail is balanced and clean, with the front part of the board just slightly thinner than the back half. The deck is flat, with more foam (volume) left towards the rails.
